Acme Farms + Kitchen: Strict Organic Standards - Won't Always Say Organic

At Acme Farms + Kitchen, we’re passionate about providing our customers with the freshest, healthiest, and most responsibly sourced food possible. While you might notice we don’t frequently label our offerings as “certified organic,” there’s a thoughtful reason behind that choice. Although many of our amazing producers are certified organic, our commitment to local sourcing, small businesses, and sustainable practices sometimes leads us down a path that diverges from the organic certification process—despite the fact that our standards align closely with organic principles.

Supporting Local Farmers and Small Businesses

One of the cornerstones of our mission is to prioritize local first. We believe in the power of community and supporting small farms that are often the backbone of our food system. Many of these farms operate under organic practices but choose not to pursue certification due to the high costs and time investments involved. For small farmers, these resources are often better spent directly on their land and livestock rather than on paperwork and fees, which can be a significant burden.

By working directly with these small farms, we build relationships based on trust and transparency. We take the time to understand their values and practices, ensuring that our sourcing aligns with our commitment to quality and sustainability. This direct connection allows us to support farmers who may share our vision for responsible agriculture but find the certification process daunting or impractical.

The Reality of Certification

Organic certification is a rigorous process, and while it serves an important role in the food industry, it’s not the only indicator of quality. Some of the small dairy farms we partner with, for example, opt out of certification for specific reasons. If a farmer’s pasture-raised cows fall ill, they prefer to have the flexibility to treat them with necessary medications, such as antibiotics. Under organic certification, the use of such treatments is restricted, which can put the health of the animals at risk.

We understand the complexities farmers face and recognize that their commitment to ethical and sustainable practices can be as valuable as certification. Our goal is to honor their choices while maintaining our own high standards.

Our Standards for Every Meal Kit

At Acme Farms + Kitchen, we’re relentless in our sourcing standards because you deserve food that nourishes your body—not food that slowly wears it down. Here’s what you can expect from our meal kits:

No pesticides like glyphosate, a known carcinogen.
No artificial colors or additives, because food doesn’t need to be “prettier” at the cost of your health.
No hormones or antibiotics, which are overused in industrial agriculture.
No preservatives, because real food doesn’t need them.
97% seed oil free, and working toward 99% in 2025.

These standards reflect our commitment to quality and health, ensuring that every meal kit we provide is not only delicious but also aligned with the best practices in sustainable agriculture.

A Commitment You Can Trust

While we may not always label our products as “certified organic,” we ensure that our sourcing meets stringent organic standards. By prioritizing local farms and small businesses, we’re able to provide food that is not only good for you but also supports the livelihoods of the farmers in our community.

In choosing Acme Farms + Kitchen, you’re not just selecting a meal kit; you’re supporting a movement towards sustainable, ethical, and community-focused food systems. We invite you to join us in celebrating the incredible farmers and small businesses that make our food possible, all while enjoying the very best of our region’s offerings.

Thank you for being a part of our journey!
