Likely originating in Spain and most popular in American diners, French toast is a perennial breakfast favorite, with thick slabs of bread soaked in a rich custard of eggs ands cream then gently pan-fried. Already a decadent plate, we thought we’d up the ante by making it with slabs of butter-swirled Croissant Sourdough bread from our friends at Guerilla Bakery, and topping it with macerated fresh June strawberries and dollops of sweet whipped cream.

Known as Cilbir in Turkey, this deceptively simple method of serving eggs is bursting with flavor. At its simplest, farm-fresh eggs are gently poached then served atop a garlicky greek yogurt and drizzled with chili oil. Our version takes the dish a bit deeper, spiking the yogurt with lemon and fresh dill, infusing butter with warm Aleppo chili, and topping everything with a scattering of toasty ground walnuts. Served with crusty rustic wheat bread on the side for dipping.
